General hunting information

Rifles and Ammunition

Only one rifle per caliber per person is allowed (eg. no two x 30-06 per person). No semi-automatics are allowed. Written proof of ownership is required (signed US Customs Form Nr. 4457).

On arrival at O.R. Tambo (Johannesburg International) Airport, your rifles and documentation will be inspected and you will be issued with a temporary import permit for the duration of your stay. The laws governing international flights demand that rifles and ammunition be transported in lockable cases.

Required caliber for plains game is in the 30-caliber class (30-06, 300, 338). 80 Rounds soft nose ammunition will be sufficient.

For Buffalo, Rhino and Elephant, a minimum caliber of 375 is required. All calibers bigger than this are welcome. 40 Rounds soft nose as well as 40 rounds solids will be sufficient.

Recommended bullets for all calibers are strong, high quality bullets like Swift A-Frame, Trophy Bonded Bear Claw or Barnes X.

Fit your rifle with a good quality scope with variable power and try to get a few practice sessions in on the range.
